After limited movement in my right leg and a very painful hip, Mr. Longstaff suggested that I needed a hip replacement. He listened very carefully to my concerns for the most suitable type of hip. I have always enjoyed a very active lifestyle of riding, walking, swimming, pilates, and I work full time as a foundation stage teacher. Mr Longstaff explained carefully his recommendation for the replacement hip. I had complete confidence in his expertise and professional opinion. He is an excellent surgeon and is supported by a fantastic team at Bishop Auckland Hospital. Every member of staff was conscientious and enthusiastic helping everyone to achieve independence in a supportive, and caring environment. I have had two follow up consultation sessions where Mr. Longstaff, he listened carefully to my questions and answered them fully. I have just completed an 8 mile walk, cycled with my grandchildren on holiday and enjoy swimming with my friends. Tomorrow I am back at school. Life is good! Thank you so much, you have given me my life back! I can highly recommend Mr Longstaff, he is a very skilled surgeon but also a really caring person.

After suffering osteo-arthritis in both knees through wear and tear, ( I am 78years old and played most sports until my late 50`s ) I decided to take the plunge and seek help to see if knee replacement would cure the problem) Fortunately for me I was referred to Mr Lee Longstaff at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead. From the first consultation Mr Longstaff he explained the procedures and gave me great confidence to have my first total knee replacement in Jan 2015. The operation was a total success and I had the other knee replacement op in Nov 2015. This op too was totally successful and cannot thank Mr Longstaff and his team and the QE Hospital for the care and attention I received. I am now reaping the rewards of being able to walk pain free and would have no hesitation in recommending Mr Longstaff to carry out any procedures. With grateful thanks, Peter Swaddle

Went in for hip-replacement operation on 10th March, and appreciated the pre and post operation meetings. All options discussed, with an explanation provided for the type of surgery used on a 'relatively young' (58) patient. Very successful outcome, no more sleepless nights, and have recently gone through the experience of moving house with no undue pain or discomfort. Golf now back on the agenda! They have a good team at the Spire, including all of the nursing staff and physiotherapists - I would definitely recommend them

I would like to thank Mr Longstaff and his team for giving me back, pain free nights, enjoyable dog walks and the ability to drive without groaning because it hurt so much. Six weeks after my hip replacement, I am able to live my life fully again. To anyone who is unsure of having this procedure, my advice is, do it.

After several years of pain and swelling in my knee, which had prevented me from being active and sleeping well, Mr Longstaff assured me that a knee replacement procedure will provide an improved lifestyle. During consultation Mr Longstaff set out all of the considerations. I agreed to this procedure taking place, as an NHS patient, in August 2015. The procedure went well. I was out of bed the next day and walking, with support, the following day. My rehabilitation proceeded as described by Mr Longstaff. During this time he was extremely attentive throughout. Mr Longstaff has a very pleasant bedside manner. My lifestyle has improved to levels prior to my knee becoming problematic. Last week (May 2016) I completed a walking holiday in western Scotland. Walking distances of 12-14 miles each day - no pain, no swelling and no medication. My exercise regime now allows me to prevent weight gain and other positive health promotion benefits. I am 67 years of age.
